THEMATIC CONFERENCE - YOUTH AND MUSEUM

01/29/2020 02:00 PM

Youth and Museum

Mercredi 29 janvier : 14h00-15h30 salle Soufflot

Many exciting activities are offered to children by almost all museums, but the offer is less rich for older teenagers, “under twenty”.

For this “youth”, we will have the chance to make some international comparisons, starting with Spain with the survey launched by the Spanish Ministry of Culture presented by Ana Azor.

We will get to know an unprecedented function: “curator of outreach”, which could be translated as “responsible for awareness”. It is close to mediation, but more socal and broader. To present and situate it in our subject, Daniela Bystrom, curator of outreach at the Brücke Museum in Berlin.

With Cathy Losson, in the Louvre, this will be the French way to treat the subject through the analysis of the exciting experiences conducted in Seine Saint Denis in Aulnay-sous-Bois and Sevran.

Finally Julien Chapuis. We have seen his testimony about this youth in the face of culture in general and museums, more specifically. A warm, generous testimony that will close this conference and open it to the future. Christophe Vital, former president of the conservative association, a man of great experience, will be the moderator.

“The out-of-the-wall strategy, the museum to meet young people”

Based on a feedback – the presence of the Louvre for 4 years (from 2016 to 2019) in two priority neighborhoods of the policy of the city of Seine-Saint-Denis – the topic of the conference will be to explain how, via its territorial action, the museum intends to contribute to the implementation of artistic and cultural education courses for young audiences, some unfamiliar with museum practice.

By relying on local partnerships and developing the training of supervisors (teachers, animators, educators), the museum, in a logic of taking into account all ages and all the times of life of children and young people, adolescents, has co-constructed actions and developed innovative mediation practices, based on the cultural references of targeted young audiences.

The ultimate goal was to provide these young people with access to and experience in the museum and its collections, to foster the acquisition of knowledge, to participate in the development of their creativity and artistic practices, to contribute to the learning of citizenship.

  • Daniela Bystron Intervention – BRÜCKE-MUSEUM BERLIN

Since 2018, the Berlin Senate has set up 10 posts for the Outreach sector. Outreach means knowing that social diversity is not reflected in cultural institutions due to structural exclusion. Museums are changeable and should reflect the society in staff, program and audience. Outreach is a strategy to initiate this process of change out of the institution and to recognize the social function of the museum and to exchange views with civil society actors.
