When the Culture Pass allows young people to partner with cultural institutions

Thursday 26 March 2026 | 14:30 - Soufflot pitch room
Theories on citizen "participation" in public life have permeated the cultural sector, aiming to foster public engagement in cultural institutions. Beyond reception studies, the challenge lies in imagining ways to hear and integrate the voices of visitors, neighbors, remote audiences, and young people into all or part of our professional activities, from programming to visitor experiences. Youth participation presents a dual challenge: firstly, it involves guiding them in discovering cultural professions and introducing them to the "worlds of art"; secondly, it requires taking their expectations, perceptions, visit context, and uncertainties seriously so that museums can support their experiences at an age when these experiences are crucial. Through concrete examples from different establishments and the experience of the Culture Pass regarding the cultural practices of young people and their aspirations, the round table aims to put into perspective what is activated in the encounter between young people and professionals around works and knowledge.
