ERCO Lumières: Workshop on the Preservation of Works.
Wednesday 03 April 2024 | 17:30

A family-run business present in over 55 countries, ERCO Lumières has been manufacturing high-quality lighting solutions since 1934, at its site in Lüdenscheid, Germany.
Collecting, preserving, studying, exhibiting: these pillars of museum activity took shape over 200 years ago in Europe, in the wake of the Enlightenment, and still permeate the work of public museums, galleries and private collections today. Thanks to the possibilities offered by high-end LED lighting, each of these areas now benefits from appropriate lighting, with no compromise between the visual experience and the protection of the works.
The presentation of imposing works of art and the simultaneous need to protect them from light present the designer with a major challenge. In this sense, LED technology and an appropriate lighting strategy help to provide visitors with a strong artistic experience despite conservation imperatives.
ERCO Lumières is offering a workshop on the preservation of artworks, led by Matthew Cobham, Director Cluster Culture at ERCO & Member of ICOM (International Council of Museums).
The quest for an optimal balance between captivating visitor experiences and preserving works of art for future generations remains crucial. There are many misunderstandings surrounding light, often due to assumptions, not least because of the obsolescence of international recommendations concerning the lighting of works of art. Matthew will offer a highly visual and immersive presentation on this subject.
