How the Centre des Monuments Nationaux is pioneering solutions for deaf audiences by offering a mediation tour in Sign Language with Langue Turquoise at the opening of the Hôtel de la Marine

Workshop presented by Langue Turquoise with the Hôtel de la Marine and the Centre des Monuments Nationaux Langue Turquoise, a leader in Sign Language translation, and the CMN, a pioneer in innovation for deaf audiences, worked together to integrate accessibility into the permanent exhibition path at the Hôtel de la Marine. This workshop will present in detail the methodology and thinking behind the project. It will explore the challenges of accessibility for deaf audiences, as well as the crucial phase of adapting and creating content for a mediation tool tailored to their needs. Technical constraints encountered throughout the project will also be discussed to raise awareness among participants about the complexity of such an undertaking. Speakers:
  • Sandrine Rincheval – Passionate about history and heritage from a young age, Sandrine was born deaf into a deaf, signing family and grew up with a bilingual, bicultural background. She turned her passion into her profession by integrating Sign Language into her work. In 2012, she joined the Centre des Monuments Nationaux as a Deaf Audiences Coordinator. Her mission is to develop cultural initiatives for deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors through both human and digital mediation. She is committed to making cultural accessibility as broad and complete as possible for these audiences
  • Thomas Planchais – An audiovisual professional with extensive experience in video production and post-production, Thomas founded LANGUE TURQUOISE to promote Sign Language. His discovery of the Deaf community inspired him to learn Sign Language and gave new purpose to his work. As manager and accessibility expert at LANGUE TURQUOISE, he oversees and coordinates projects that highlight the richness and diversity of Sign Language through innovative, high-quality content. He combines his passion for audiovisual media with his dedication to Deaf culture to create unique, inclusive projects
  • Victoria Decocq – Dedicated to making heritage and cultural sites welcoming to all, Victoria joined the Centre des Monuments Nationaux in 2019 to help develop mediation content for the opening of the Hôtel de la Marine. Since the inauguration of this now fully accessible monument, she has overseen its educational and cultural programs, enriching the permanent visitor experience and curating an increasingly diverse offering.
