How to better develop and expand the audiences of a museum in a territory? A complete methodological approach to audience studies. The example of the Ingres Bourdelle Museum in Occitanie
Many museums are now convinced of the need to conduct in-depth studies to better understand their visitors. The renewal, loyalty and expansion of audiences are indeed at the heart of the development and influence strategies of cultural sites. But what are the most appropriate methodologies and tools for conducting these audience studies - presence of investigators at the exit of museums, online questionnaire, QR code at the reception, discussion group, individual interviews? The answer will depend on the objectives and challenges of each site. The major study conducted with the Ingres Bourdelle Museum will illustrate these different approaches and their contribution.
