In the face of ecological and social crises, museums are increasingly being called upon to rethink their role in our relationship with the living world. Far from being a mere programming theme, “the living” is becoming a cross-cutting framework for thought one that challenges mediation, programming, governance, and the evaluation of cultural initiatives.
By making the living world perceptible, sensory, and intelligible, museums can contribute to a sustainable transformation of behavior. How can we shift from a top-down transmission of knowledge to a mediation based on experience, sensitivity, and attentiveness? How can we strengthen the bond between cultural institutions, audiences, and the living world?
