Project Seminar. Museum of Jewish Art and History: museum expansion and redesign of the permanent exhibition
Inaugurated in 1998, the Museum of Jewish Art and History presents an outstanding collection on Jewish culture in Europe and around the Mediterranean basin, in the Hôtel de Saint-Aignan, a masterpiece of seventeenth-century classical architecture. Twenty years after opening, the museum is undertaking a 1000 m² expansion project beneath the Anne Frank garden, enabling it to furnish itself with a space meeting current standards for its temporary exhibitions, while releasing 400 m² in the main building to expand and completely review the presentation of its permanent collection.
What are the principles governing the project to redesign the permanent exhibition? What exhibition policy justifies this expansion project? What methodology is being implemented to develop the architectural and museographic programme of a museum housed in a historic monument on a protected site?
