What role can artists play in building meaningful public engagement with arts and culture?

04/04/2024 10:45 AM
Developing an art centre in a nursing home, designing artistic tools adapted for people in psychiatric hospitals, running co-creation workshops… These are all projects led by artists who place the public at the heart of their creative process – a public free to contribute to a work or to share it. Artists are true allies of cultural organisations, opening the way to new ways of engaging audiences and driving innovation and change in both culture and society. Together we will reflect on the role of artists and their ability to invent new dynamics between audiences, the arts and culture.
Two organisations have been invited by Art Explora to share their programmes and expertise on this subject: Hospital Rooms, a charity that develops innovative creative programmes, particularly in hospitals (United Kingdom), and the Théâtre National de Wallonie-Bruxelles, which spearheads the democratisation of culture in terms of programming, production and dissemination (Belgium).

  • Emilie Boucheteil, Director of Audiences and Engagement, Art Explora Foundation
