Immersive sound narration, a tool to harmonize the visiting experience in a heterogeneous exhibition

Thursday 04 April 2024 | 13:30
The MADVO is a site of the Département du Val d'Oise . For several years now, the museum has been adapting temporary exhibitions that it borrows from other institutions, reinterpreting the content to make it consistent with the local area.

The "Viking Heroes" exhibition is the first French adaptation of the exhibition designed by York Archaeology, giving the MADVO the opportunity to host a replica of an Oseberg tent, immersing visitors in the Viking world and evoking the archaeological discretion of the Vikings, who nevertheless crossed the Val d'Oise from Normandy to Paris via the Seine. At the heart of this exhibition, made up of heterogeneous spaces, the immersive sound narration produced by Nuits Noires is a tool for harmonising the visitor experience.

Speakers:

  •     Claire Géraud-Stewart: Director of the Musée archéologique du Val d'Oise :

Claire Géraud-Stewart is Director of the Val d'Oise departmental museums: the Musée archéologique and the Musée de l'outil. These two museums house collections on a wide range of subjects: geology, archaeology from prehistory to the 1940s, popular arts and traditions, as well as botany, crafts and visual art. Located in the French Vexin, they contribute to the cultural influence of rural areas.
After training at the Institut d'études politiques de Lyon, Claire Géraud-Stewart drew on the experience she had gained throughout her studies in a small local archaeology museum to work with the Musée national de Préhistoire, the International Council of Museums, the Historial de la Grande Guerre and the Musée de l'air et de l'espace, before taking over responsibility for the Pôle archéologique départemental de l'Ardèche in 2018. She joined the Val d'Oise Departmental Council in 2022.

  •     Elodie Parmentier: Associate President of Nuits Noires

After training in the visual arts between Annecy and Mexico, and a master's degree in cultural project management at the Sorbonne, Elodie was keen to create and imagine immersive systems for all types of audience. Ever since her first internship as an assistant to an exhibition curator in Paris working alongside Margherita Balzerani, she knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur with passion and conviction. In order to launch herself into the entrepreneurial world, she wanted to learn from different structures: We Agency, Palais de Tokyo, Yoyo Palais de Tokyo. At each position, she had the opportunity to learn independently, and this reinforced her idea that she wanted to try her hand at everything and become an entrepreneur in the cultural world. After a series of encounters, opportunities and experiences, she decided to create Nuits Noires with Jérémie Nicolas to bring her vision and artistic approach to bear. Her leitmotiv is to combine cultural mediation, museography, sound creation and immersion to forge a strong link between works of art and the public, combining playfulness with didacticism.
