Online guided tours: which offer for which audience? Case study: e-visiting the Palais Garnier with the Opéra national de Paris

Thursday 04 April 2024 | 11:30
In response to overtourism, new ways of consuming culture and the growing need for cultural accessibility, the virtual visit is emerging as a solution to many issues, while at the same time giving rise to new ones:

  • "Virtual" visits, e-visits: hybrid, immersive, autonomous or guided, are they simply an online transposition of the in situ offer?
  • What's the added value in the ultra-competitive market for digital experiences?
  • Which audiences for which cultural and technical challenges?
  • How can we capture these audiences?

Faced with these challenges, there's one obvious answer: to center the experience around the human element, the key to addressing a diversity of audiences with varied needs, for a rich, inclusive experience.
The Opéra national de Paris and Manatour are working together to respond with an example: the design of online guided tours of the Palais Garnier.
