The contribution of digital technologies to the knowledge of the monumental decoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris

Thursday 04 April 2024 | 12:30
Workshop proposed by Holusion, with the Public Establishment Rebâtir-Notre Dame de Paris, the Sorbonne, the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi and the University of Lille.
The monumental decoration of Notre-Dame de Paris constitutes one of the major groups of sculpture from the last third of the 12th century to the middle of the 14th century.
The restoration of the cathedral allowed access to the scaffolding to carry out highly precise lasergrammetry and photogrammetry surveys.
This workshop looks back at the exhibition "The rediscovery of historic monument decorations through holograms" offered at the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and presenting several innovations made possible by the provision of 3D models, such as for example the complete restitution of a marquee by holograms.
How can we best preserve, enrich and enhance the 3D models of these settings? How can we enable cultural professionals and teachers to take ownership of these new techniques and use them through various mediation devices and educational materials?

  • Thibault Guillaumont, Holusion , Co-founder and member of the eThesaurus research project
